My Philosophy
Instead of just giving you 1 paragraph, I answered some questions . These questions helped me expand on my thinking around health to help me see what I truly believe. Looking at my answers, I can boil down my philosophy to say, a big player in the game is your mindset and beliefs about health. As a coach, I will work towards helping you uncover some of those conscious or unconscious beliefs. Breaking them down and turning them into something new. Using them as fuel for change instead of a barrier to it.
If you don’t agree with the way I answered one of these questions, that is the beautiful thing about coaching. It does not matter what I believe. What matters is what you believe, where you want to start, and how you want to get there. So, I would love to chat about how you would answer these questions!
What does “being healthy” truly mean to me – beyond weight, labs, or appearance?
I believe it’s about finding a flow with the ups, downs, and curves of life and my body. Ummm… what does that mean? I think it’s a feeling. If I am my healthiest version, I feel in control. I am in control of my food choices, how I structure my day, and the way I talk to myself. AND, I also have the ability to let it go. I am able to eat treats when we are celebrating. I am able to spend a whole day on the couch watching as many of the Harry Potter movies as I can and not feeling badly about it. I understand that there are seasons to push my goals, and seasons to rest and enjoy where I’m at. It is being in the driver’s seat and understanding what your body needs to feel its best!
Do I believe health is primarily physical, mental, emotional, spiritual, or a blend?
A blend, for sure! Having a good balance of them all is very important. AND, I believe that your mentality around health can really help you make a breakthrough.
What myths about health do I want to challenge?
That it is super difficult to be healthy. I think that stems from a place of not believing that it is possible. Of taking all of your past experiences and projecting it into the future. What would happen if you truly believed in yourself? How would that change the way you show up everyday?
Do I believe change should feel hard, gentle, structured, flexible?
I would have to say gentle and flexible. I think that if it is too hard and structured, it is more difficult to maintain in the long run. I want to find and set goals that work with you and your life. Not fitting your life around the goal. That being said, we are creatures of habit and having a system and structure around our day and health can be very beneficial.
Values I bring to Coaching
Authenticity
I am weird and have my silly side and you will most likely see that during our coaching sessions. I would ask the same of you. Do not feel like you need to perform for me or set a goal because you think that is what I want. Show up as yourself because you are awesome! The more we can tune into who you are and what you truly need, the easier and faster this will go.
Compassion
I am not perfect and I will never expect you to be either. I will be understanding and non-judgemental because that is how I would want someone to coach me.
Autonomy
I can’t do this for you. You will work on building trust. Trust in your ability to set and reach your goals. You will learn skills to be able to “coach” yourself so that you do not rely on me forever.
Humor
I like life more when I am having fun. That doesn’t mean I don’t take things seriously. It means I follow my joy in life. I think laughing can break down barriers and cure some of the worst days. I will do my best to make coaching enjoyable.
Sustainability
If it doesn’t work in real life, we don’t do it. We focus on things that will last.
